Over the course of 10 days, students tackled the competition’s interdisciplinary case, which represented the realities of a highly competitive business environment. The competition transformed into a two-round online competition due to the collaboration between the International Business Program at the College of Business and the students competing. It was great to be able to contribute firsthand to the success and continuation of the competition,” explained Meghan Schuette, freshman international business major from Omaha, Nebraska, and part of the competition’s winning team. “Right before we were sent home, the international business staff held a meeting where we could share our own opinions and ideas for how we envisioned the competition happening virtually. Much like current real-world global business teams, students worked together virtually and presented their business plans through Zoom. We are looking forward to welcoming you all in Oxford in the Spring of 2023.When the world went remote, students studying international business at the University of Nebraska –Lincoln chose to stay connected by competing in virtual teams in the inaugural Global Case Competition to solve a global business challenge. Mindful that the 24th International Congress of Byzantine Studies meets in August 2022, the SPBS Executive Committee has agreed that there will be no symposium this year, and we are especially grateful to the organisers of the Spring Symposium scheduled for the year after Oxford (Kent, with Anne Alwis as Symposiarch) who have generously agreed to defer their meeting to 2024. We will post an announcement of the revised dates shortly. Although we regret not being able to meet this year, continuing COVID19-related uncertainties and restrictions in the UK and beyond put the feasibility of meeting in person in doubt, and it has proved impossible to organise a viable hybrid format at this relatively short notice. We are writing with an update on the upcoming 2022 SPBS Spring Symposium on Material Religion in Byzantium and Beyond.Īfter much consultation and deliberation, we have decided to postpone this year’s Spring Symposium to the Spring of 2023. ![]() – On-line: Full: £35 Members of the SPBS: £20 Students/Unwaged: £10Ī booking form will soon be available online, on the Symposium website, with further details of registration and payment. – In person, for one day: Full: £65 Members of the SPBS: £55 Students/Unwaged: £30. – In person, for three days: Full: £130 Members of the SPBS: £110 Students/Unwaged: £60. The Symposium will be hybrid, taking place at Oxford – Corpus Christi College and All Souls College –, and on Zoom. Kristensen, Anne Lester, Birgit Meyer, Brigitte Pitarakis, Regula Schorta, Myrto Veikou, and Anne-Marie Yasin. Sessions will be arranged around the themes of ‘Objects in motion’, ‘Religion in 3D’, ‘Religious landscapes’, ‘Things without context’, ‘Things and their context’ and ‘Spatial approaches to religion’.Ĭonfirmed speakers include: Béatrice Caseau, Paroma Chatterjee, Francesca Dell’Acqua, Ivan Foletti, David Frankfurter, Ildar Garipzanov, Troels M. Taking a broad geographical and chronological view of the Byzantine world, the Symposium will range across Afro-Eurasia and from Antiquity to the period after the fall of Constantinople. The Symposium brings together Byzantine studies with a series of innovative approaches to the material nature and realities of religion – foregrounding the methodological, historical and archaeological problems of studying religion through visual and material culture. The 54th Annual Spring Symposium in Byzantine Studies will be held in Oxford on the theme of Material Religion in Byzantium and Beyond. ![]() Seattle is the only current Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise without a World Series appearance. The M's entered this season with the longest active playoff drought in the four major North American professional sports leagues, attempting to make their first postseason in twenty years. The Mariners played their 22nd full season (23rd overall) at T-Mobile Park, their home ballpark in Seattle, Washington. The 2021 Seattle Mariners season was the 45th season in franchise history. He’s gone at least 5 innings and hasn’t given up more than 3 earned runs in any of those game, giving his team opportunities to win. Game 3: Tyler Anderson (LHP, 6-9, 4.08 ERA, 116 K’s) vs Jose Urquidy (RHP, 6-3, 3.42 ERA, 70 K’s)Īnderson has slotted in nicely for the Mariners since coming over from Pittsburgh at the trade deadline. His only other shutout of significant length this season came against the Yankees, but other than that Gilbert has really not been very good in 2021. Gilbert was absolutely destroyed by the Astros in his first start against them in August, dropping 9 earned runs in 4.2 innings, which he followed up with 5 innings of shutout ball in his next start against them. The second rematch of the series, this one is a similar story to Game 1. After surrendering 7 runs in just 2.2 innings in Houston during mid-August, he went on to shut them out for 7 innings in his most recent start. Kikuchi has had a Jekyll and Hyde season, including his two most recent starts against the Astros. In the first of two pitching rematches from last week, Yusei Kikuchi gets the ball for Seattle in Game 1. The winning formula for opposing teams seems to be getting to the starting pitching early and putting the game out of reach for Seattle before the game is turned over to the pen. On top of that, their bullpen has been on point and is a major reason why the offense has been in the position to win games late. Though they rank near the bottom of the league in most stats, they’ve been able to generate their runs when they most need it, late in games and in last at-bats. Of course, I will reiterate that it’s not the size of the offense but how the M’s are using it this season. Not much has changed for the team, with the same names still providing most of the oomph for the team. Seeing as how I’ve covered this twice in the past few weeks already I’m just gonna cop out and refer you to my previous series preview from when the Astros faced the Mariners last week. W/L Splits: 40-29 at home, 35-33 on the road, 39-36 against teams over. Last 10 Games: 6-4 Record, 1 Series Sweep, 1 Series Win, 1 Series Loss, +6 Run Differential (45 Scored, 39 Allowed) They also play a number of their final games against the Diamondbacks, Angels, and Royals, so the chances of them ending September with a winning record is at least decent. If they’re going to break their epic postseason drought then they’ll need to win most of those games, if not all of them. That places Seattle firmly in charge of their own destiny with this series against the Astros, two more against the A’s, and another against the Red Sox. On top of that, they now sit just 4.5 games back from the Astros after Houston’s disastrous road trip to the West Coast, which included a series loss against these same Mariners. They leap-frogged the A’s after sweeping the Diamondbacks over the weekend to run their winning streak to 5 in a row, and are now just 3 games back from the second WC spot. Still, they do have some work to do if they expect to be playing a month from now. However, a surprisingly strong bullpen and a surgical offense with a propensity for the clutch hit has propelled them into the thick of the October hunt. By rights the young team from Seattle doesn’t really belong in the race considering that they’re supposed to be at the beginning of a rebuild period. ![]() For the third time in as many weeks the Astros will face off against the Mariners in what is becoming an increasingly tight postseason race. ![]() ![]() BriseBois spoke glowingly of him at the end of last season, and he carries a $1.4 million cap hit. It will be interesting to see what happens with right-shot defenseman Philippe Myers, the forgotten front piece of the Ryan McDonagh trade. All three will be in the fold going into this season along with top right-shot defenseman Erik Cernak. Keep in mind that last year’s opening night roster didn’t include right-shot defensemen Zach Bogosian, who was injured, or Nick Perbix or Darren Raddysh, who opened the season at AHL Syracuse. Brandon Hagel showed he could mesh with Point and Kucherov, but he might be better used alongside Anthony Cirelli on the two-way line. Not every player can excel skating with elite talent, and Sheary could get a look with Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov on the Lightning’s top scoring line. As part of Pittsburgh teams that won back-to-back Stanley Cups, Sheary played with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Last season, he assisted on seven of Ovechkin’s goals. Sheary can play across any of the top three lines in Washington, he shared a line with Alex Ovechkin. The Lightning had to go bargain shopping in free agency and Sheary - signed to a three-year, $2 million average annual value contract - is the only newcomer making more than a $1 million annually and the only one to get a deal of more than two years. He averaged 16 goals a year in his past three seasons in Washington. Īmong the Lightning’s free-agency additions, the 31-year-old Sheary figures to make the biggest impact among the newcomers. Conor Sheary, here shooting against new teammate Andrei Vasilevskiy, isn't fazed by playing alongside star players. She plays piano for church, you know, and she was playing “Jamming” and I came running out of the room like, “what the hell?” I didn’t know that could be done! I was a kid, you know what I mean? I was a kid. It didn’t hit me though until my sister came home with one sheet of music from Legend album. One of the main artists we were listening to back in the day was Bob Marley, of course. When I started listening to the lyrics and understanding them, you know, it made me escape, you know? It means that there’s a better thing than the negativity that we were going through. ![]() Man…I guess I found reggae, you know what I mean? My older sister had a lot of mixtapes–didn’t have any names on them, and we’d always listen to reggae throughout the house–reggae’s huge in Polynesia you know? We’d listen to that stuff growing up in Compton. ![]() Yeah, my name is Jerry Afemata, also known as J Boog, and I’m coming from Compton, California by way of Samoa, Hawaii and all the great South Pacific islands, and I love reggae! Ĭool! So, going on that, when you were coming up in Compton, can you tell us a little bit about how reggae found you–or how you found reggae, however you think about it. So can you introduce yourself? Who you are and what you do? Yeah man, I’ve been listening to it on repeat, its really excellent. Yeah man, we’ve been trying to put a lot of stuff together, meeting a lot of people, a lot of producers, and trying to make sure that what we put out was the right thing for us, you know what I mean? Hopefully everybody dug it the same way we did. Yeah the EP was nominated, but, the album, we were working on for about five years. So how long were working on that album? Though it was the Rose Petals EP that was nominated, right? We didn’t even know anything about it, you know what I mean? Then, when we got nominated, we were just in awe – excited, happy and all those crazy feelings running through your mind, you know? J Boog: Thank you, man, thank you very much. Sebastian Bouknight: First of all, big up on your Grammy nomination! Afropop's Sebastian Bouknight caught up with J Boog on the phone just before he stepped into a rehearsal in California: J Boog is signed with the California-based label Wash House, on which he released his remarkable Wash House Ting album last year. His sound is sun-drenched, lush and a bit retro, paying homage to old-school, full-bodied roots reggae in a similar vein to that of young Jamaican star Chronixx. Raised in a family rooted in their Samoan identity and filled with reggae music, he found his own powerful voice in the music form, collaborating with reggae legends from Jamaica and the Pacific. ![]() Born in Compton, California and currently residing in Hawaii, J Boog is a child of a rich trans-Pacific Polynesian reggae scene. J Boog is a rising star in the international reggae scene, most recently lauded with a Grammy nomination of "Best Reggae Album" for his EP, Rose Petals. Some of the TV-based models also have batteries, but that’s simply a nice-to-have feature, as such models are most often used in a semipermanent, stationary position. We saw advertised battery life ranging from eight to 20 hours among these models even the low-end figures are pretty good and wouldn’t exclusively disqualify a transmitter. A long battery life (for portable models): A long-lasting battery means you’ll be able to use your portable transmitter on trips or throughout the week without having to be constantly charging, and there’s a better chance that the device will be ready to go whenever you pick it up.Even so, this guide focuses on the Bluetooth transmitting function if you’re looking specifically for a Bluetooth receiver, we have other guides for that-namely, guides to the best Bluetooth headphone adapter and the best Bluetooth audio receiver for your home stereo or speakers. Since the prices of transmitter/receiver combos were in the same range as those of transmitter-only models, we decided to limit our test to those that included both modes for added convenience. ![]() Both transmitter and receiver modes: Although all these devices can beam audio to your headphones, some of them can also receive audio from your phone and pass it through to wired headphones, a speaker, or a car stereo. ![]() ![]()
